| In recent years, a number of copper, antimony and gold deposits and ore spots have been discoveredin Zhusileng area of Ejina Banner, Inner Mongolia. In order to study the tectonic background of this area, volcanicrocks of upper Member of Baishan Formation (C2b2) of Late Carboniferous in Geriletu copper polymetallic depositwere selected to focus on the study, and major elements, trace elements, rare earth elements and electron probeanalysis were carried out. The analysis results of major elements show that the SiO2 content of this volcanic rock is concentrated in 50.73%-56.41% and 69.53%-77.39%, which belong to the basic rocks and acid rocks respectively.The basic rocks include basalt and basalt andesite, etc. Acid rocks include rhyolite and dacite. The analysis resultsof trace elements and rare earth elements show that the (La/Sm)N values of acid rocks such as rhyolite and dacite ranged from 1.34 to 2.75, with an average value of 2.04. (Gd/Yb)N values ranged from 0.65 to 0.91, with an averagevalue of 078. Acidic rock samples such as rhyolite and dacite are enriched in Cs-Rb-Ba-Th-U-K-Pb and de-pleted in Nb-Ta-Sr-P-Ti elements, which is similar to granite. (La/Sm)N values in basaltic andesite and basaltic rock samples ranged from 0.76 to 1.72, with an average value of 1.10. (Gd/Yb)N values ranged from 0.61 to 1.58,with an average value of 1.00. Light rare earth and heavy rare earth fractionation is not obvious, Chondrite-normalized REE distribution curve is smooth on the whole, the primitive mantle-normalized curve is similar to dio-rite. The results of electron probe analysis of minerals show that the volcanic rocks in this area underwent obviousalteration due to tectonic-magmatic hydrothermal processes in the later period. The alteration types of acid volcanicrocks mainly include sericite and albionite. The alteration types of basic volcanic rocks are mainly chlorophyllitiza-tion, brown epidotization and epidotization. Based on geochemical characteristics, regional geological characteristicsand previous research data, it is concluded that the volcanic rocks of the upper member of the Baishan Formation(C2b2) of the Late Carboniferous in Ejina Banner, Inner Mongolia have the characteristics of bimodal volcanic rocks,forming a continental rift environment. |
