The Altai cross-border rare-metal metallogenic province is the core rare-metal metallogenic zoneof the Central Asian Orogenic Belt. The geochemical signatures of rare-metal-related (called fertile) and rare-metal-unrelated (called barren) granites in this region have not been systematically compared, limiting the under.standing of ore genesis and exploration. Based on a comprehensive compilation of 344 whole-rock geochemical da.tasets, we conducted principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA) to contrast fertile versus barren granites. Fertile granites are highly fractionated, characterized by el.evated Ta, Rb, Nb, and SiO2 concentrations, depleted Fe2O3t, TiO2, MgO, CaO, Zr, Ba, and REE concentrations, lower crystallization temperatures, pronounced negative Eu anomalies, as well as significant REE tetrad effects. Forthe whole-rock geochemical data of granite, high concentrations of Ta, Rb, Nb, and SiO2 can serve as indicators for rare-metal mineralization in this region. Compared with highly fractionated granites in South China, those in the Al.tai exhibit similar geochemical affinities to Himalayan highly fractionated granites, indicating the potential for Be-Nb-Ta-Li mineralization associated with highly fractionated granites.
